Dr Cortes was born in the Philippines where she also completed her medical school. She graduated from De La Salle University Health Science Institute
and proceeded to finish her pediatrics residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She fell in love with the population of El Paso and decided to stay here since graduating in 2017. She is passionate about the early stages of life so she became a board certified lactation consultant in 2020.
